Star anise

Star anise is the star-shaped fruit of the evergreen plant, Illicium verum. Although unrelated to regular anise, it shares a similar flavour. Widely used as a spice in many Asian cuisines, including Chinese, where it is one of the components of the traditional Chinese five-spice.
